Ingredients
- 265 g Plain flour (plus extra for dusting)
- 0.25 tsp Salt
- 1.5 tsp Fast action dried yeast
- 2 tbsp Caster sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 2 tbsp Vegetable oil (plus extra for brushing)
-
2 tbsp
Vegetable oil
(plus extra for brushing)
Alternative: Sunflower oil
Instructions
-
In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, yeast, sugar, and baking powder.
-
In a jug, mix 1 tablespoon of the oil with 150ml warm water.
-
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms. If the dough is too dry, add a little more water.
-
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
-
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with cling film, and leave in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
-
Once the dough has doubled, knock it back (punch it down to release the air).
-
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out to a thickness of about 1cm.
-
Use a 7cm round cutter to cut out circles from the dough. You should get about 12 circles.
-
Brush each circle with the remaining oil, then fold in half to create a semi-circle.
-
Place a small square of baking parchment under each bun to prevent sticking.
-
Place the buns in a steamer, making sure they are not touching each other.
-
Steam over a high heat for 8-10 minutes, or until the buns are light and fluffy.
-
Remove the buns from the steamer and serve immediately with your favorite fillings.
